Save Our Seas
No empty promise … we’ve been there, done that for over three decades. And, proved our mettle too …
But why bother?
Whether we live on the coast or away from it, whether we love seafood or not, our future depends on healthy oceans. They are the earth’s largest ecosystem and its life support system, generating half of the oxygen we breathe. At any given moment, they contain more than 97 per cent of the world’s water. And did you know: Oceans provide at least a sixth of the animal protein we eat?
But the rising demand for energy resources and comforts have resulted in a toll on the marine environment. The pollution of the sea by oil residues and waste has been a major issue and its management has posed a challenge. Fairdeal has, over the years, faced that challenge head on, which has brought satisfied, loyal customers.
Moreover, regulations are in place …
The International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, 1973, was modified by the Protocol of 1978. Popularly called Marpol 73/78, it is one of the most important international marine environmental conventions. It was developed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to minimise pollution of the oceans and seas, including dumping, oil and air pollution. The objective of this convention is to preserve the marine environment, by completely eliminating pollution by oil and other harmful substances and to minimise accidental spillage of such substances.
As of January 2018, 156 states have become parties to the Marpol convention, being flag states of 99.42pc of the world’s shipping tonnage.
Fairdeal has been a pioneer in complying completely with the objectives of the Marpol 73/78 conventions.
